October 2023 Post Report

On Sunday, 08 October 2023, at 3:00 PM, the Regular monthly meeting of the Membership of Post 208, American Legion in Millis, MA was called to order by the Post Commander Robert Yeager. This was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance as led by Commander Yeager. A prayer was led by the First Vice Commander on behalf of the Post Chaplain Alan Burch Who was not present at the October meeting. The preamble to the Constitution of the American was recited by all the present membership which was led by Commander Yeager who then led in a salute to the Missing and POWs

Commander Yeager checked with the assembled membership for information on any deceased or ill Members of Post 208. Legion Member Pat Vaccaro has just recently passed away. The details have been sent in a mass mailing and posted in post news on the website. The plans so far though appear he may be buried in the National Cemetery in Bourne, MA. Legion Member Edward Shropshire had been admitted to the Timothy Daniels Nursing Home in Holliston, phone# (508)429-4566 ,call for visiting hours.

The Post 208, Adjutant Robert Bryant was present and the 1st Vice Commander Lawrence McCarter is assisting on recording the minutes on behalf of the Adjutant. Commander Robert Yeager made the finance report to the Membership. A motion was made to accept the minutes of the Finance Report which is subject to audit. The motion was passed by unanimous Vote of the Post 208 Membership present.

The Post 208 Scout Representative Todd Nolan was absent. There also wasn't any activity to report from the Post Service officer Lawrence McCarter. Other committees also had no reports. The membership Officer Robert Bryant reports that 42 Members have paid their dues for 2024 renewal. It was also again suggested renewal checks be sent directly to the Post which will result in a much quicker response and issue of new ID cards as opposed to sending the forms to National Headquarters. It was reported by Commander Yeager that the National Legion hedquarters are raising the Legion dues in 2025 from $35 to $45.   With No further discussion needed on old business Commander Yeager asked for any new business to come before the Membership of Post 208, Millis, MA

With Veteran’s Day approaching on 11 November 2023 1st the Post Adjutant Robert Bryant mentioned a speech already written by the speaker, active duty Commander Evan Wright, US Navy which We already have a copy of. The Post Commander Robert Yeager and also the 1st , Vice Commander Lawrence McCarter have already read and approved of that document at the last Post 208 Meeting held during June 2023 The Adjutant Robert Bryant also said He added picture of the Veteran’s Day speaker, Commander Wight to the Legion Post 208 web site. On New business There was new discussion of the Veteran’s day events which will be held Saturday, 11 November 2023. The fist Vice Commander, Lawrence McCarter already has the complete program finished. The Millis High school band will also be present and McCarter has already confirmed that detail with the Band Director Janice Norton. Robert Bryant will notify both the Police and Fire Chiefs of the events as well as the Scout Leaders. Legion Member Todd Nolan, at phone (617) 259-0672 is one of the contact people for the Millis Boy Scouts .The Commander Robert Yeager will contact and arrange with Jim McCay of the Millis DPW any details to be worked out with their support. Patrica Poff said She will contact Post 208 Member Colonel Michael Yaffee reference His possible participation in the Veterans day activities. The Commander Robert Yeager will be taking care of the food arraignment with Roche Brothers Market in Millis, for the Veteran’s day breakfast. Legion Member Thomas Howie will make whatever arrangements need to be made to post or display the colors during the Veterans Day ceremony.

On New business again item raised on the subject of the Boy Scout canoes stored on the property was raised by Legion Member Edward Shropshire during the prior June 2023 meeting. We will try to determine what the plans are, if any for the canoes. Commander Robert Yeager asked the Membership if there was any further business to be raised at the post meeting. There were no futher issues to be raised . A closing prayer was done for the meeting by the Post 208 Chaplain Alan Burch. The Post Commander Robert Yeager then declared the October meeting of Post 208, American Legion to be adjourned at 3:45 PM .
